Studies on biochemical and biomedical properties of Conus betulinus venom

چکیده
Marine organisms are rich sources of structurally diverse bioactive compounds. Recently, a great deal of interest has been expressed regarding marine-derived bioactive peptides because of their numerous health beneficial effects[1]. Although bio prospecting of marine organisms had yielded many bioactive peptides, pharmacologists have great passion for venoms associated peptides and their role in human metabolism. Since the medicinal value of venoms has been known from ancient times, venom toxins have been increasingly used as pharmacological tools and as prototypes for drug development. Venoms represent a huge and essentially unexplored reservoir of bioactive compounds that may cure disease conditions which do not respond to currently available therapeutics[2]. Milked venoms of Conus demonstrate direct lineage to US Food and Drug Administration approved and present in-trial drug PEER REVIEW ABSTRACT

High-throughput identification of novel conotoxins from the Chinese tubular cone snail (Conus betulinus) by multi-transcriptome sequencing.
BACKGROUND The venom of predatory marine cone snails mainly contains a diverse array of unique bioactive peptides commonly referred to as conopeptides or conotoxins. These peptides have proven to be valuable pharmacological probes and potential drugs because of their high specificity and affinity to important ion channels, receptors and transporters of the nervous system. Most previous studies ...
متن کاملA Transcriptomic Survey of Ion Channel-Based Conotoxins in the Chinese Tubular Cone Snail (Conus betulinus)
Conotoxins in the venom of cone snails (Conus spp.) are a mixture of active peptides that work as blockers, agonists, antagonists, or inactivators of various ion channels. Recently we reported a high-throughput method to identify 215 conotoxin transcripts from the Chinese tubular cone snail, C. betulinus. Here, based on the previous datasets of four transcriptomes from three venom ducts and one...
متن کاملScreening and Validation of Highly-Efficient Insecticidal Conotoxins from a Transcriptome-Based Dataset of Chinese Tubular Cone Snail
Most previous studies have focused on analgesic and anti-cancer activities for the conotoxins identified from piscivorous and molluscivorous cone snails, but little attention has been devoted to insecticidal activity of conotoxins from the dominant vermivorous species. As a representative vermivorous cone snail, the Chinese tubular cone snail (Conus betulinus) is the dominant Conus species inha...
متن کاملIdentification of neuropeptide Y-like conopeptides from the venom of Conus betulinus.
Neuropeptide Y (NPY) is a ubiquitous endocrine neuropeptide found in vertebrate and invertebrate. In our present work, two NPY-like exocrine conopeptides (designated as cono-NPYs) were first identified in the venom of cone snails. Both cono-NPYs showed sequence characteristics of invertebrate NPYs, suggesting that some exocrine venom peptides are probably evolved from the preexisting endocrine ...

Objective(s):Cone snails are estimated to consist of up to 700 species. The venom of these snails has yielded a rich source of novel peptides. This study was aimed to study the analgesic effect of Persian Gulf Conus textile and its comparison with morphine in mouse model. Materials and Methods: Samples were collected in Larak Island. The venom ducts were Isolated and kept on ice then homogenize...
